Mid-market commercial lines MGA specializing in hard-to-place risks across property, general liability, and professional liability. Processing 300+ submissions monthly with a lean team of 6 underwriters while managing appointments with 15+ carriers.
Each carrier has different submission requirements, portal interfaces, and quoting platforms. Known in the market for ability to find coverage for difficult risks but competing on speed for more standard business. Strong carrier relationships built over years but limited by manual processes that prevent scaling. Margins don't support significant headcount expansion, requiring operational efficiency to enable growth.
Underwriters spent most of their day logging into carrier portals to submit quotes and check for responses. Each carrier had different submission requirements, portal interfaces, and quote formats. Getting quotes from 5 carriers on a single submission took 4-6 hours of manual work. Quote comparison was done in Excel spreadsheets with underwriters manually copying coverage terms and pricing from different carrier quotes.
